The Quarantine Chronicles of Cooking with Que -Positivity & Respecting Expiration Dates

Today we met on Facebook and Instagram for some Virtual Positivity and Hugs 🙂

It seems like there is so much negativity out there that we are missing out on finding the positive.  So… we talked some of the positives out.

For example:

  1. You woke up
  2. You have lights
  3. You can breathe
  4. You can shower
  5. You can Brush your Teeth
  6. Pancakes?  Yes you can make them lol (here’s a recipe)

We also came up with a plan, to save everyone from their Quarantine Boredom… Enjoyyyyyyy life!  Your Family! and Stay Positive!

Now…we all need order so I figured we could have things to do daily, that will keep us in good health, and positive! (more…)

Today I’m pissed off at my Sarcoidosis!

It bothers me that there is a disease called Sarcoidosis that people don’t talk about because I guess it’s not a bigger disease.  Not looking for any sympathy, really.  I’m just what a person would call pissed off.  Rightfully so.  It sneaks up on you when you don’t have time, when you have stuff to do… like a business to run, a family to take care of..you know life.  It has no respect.  It doesn’t give you a warning when you are about to have a flare up.  You just walk around life avoiding sick people because you know you have this autoimmune disease that loves to lower your ability to fight off illness blah blah blah.

Oh but today.  I’M PISSED OFF. (more…)

Cravings! What is your Body telling you?

The most asked question in the last 2 months has been about Snacks. So I wanted to talk to you all about it. My Meal Preps with Cooking with Que fam has been at it for 4 weeks strong now, they get Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, but they have to drink a glass a water with each meal. Meal prep I great, but what happens when you want to snack in between. Some times we Stress Eat, Some time we just wanna stuff our faces.. I’m just speaking for myself (side eyes) lol. So I’m going to give you my honest snacking options.

1. Know why you are snacking? Are you really hungry? or Nah?

2. If you are genuinely hungry… has there been any changes in your diet, activity etc.

3. Pay attention to what you are craving, because usually what we crave is what our body is lacking.

Ok… Lets look at some things we CRAVE!

Veggie of the Month: Tumeric by Savannah Grace Carter

August is Turmerific!Hello family! Welcome to our new plant of the month blog series! My name is Savannah Grace. I am a 9 year old girl who lives in North Carolina with my mom and spends summers in Michigan with my dad. I love to read fiction books and write short stories. I draw pictures of animals in my spare time, my favorite color is magenta and I think eating healthy is important! I am also proud to say I am Auntie Que’s niece! One day while visiting Auntie Que's business, The Kitchen, I thought it would be cool for her to have a plant of the month for her store. She loved the idea and told me that I should write a blog. It was our idea to start this blog series about a new plant every month. I am happy to announce that the plant of the month for July is turmeric! Turmeric’s scientific name is Curcuma longa. I think that is so cool! I will use the 4-1-1 to share my excitement about turmeric. That is 4 fun facts about turmeric, one surprising fact, and my favorite fact!4 Fun Facts About Turmeric -Turmeric has more than 50 types of use! This includes tea, skin uses, spices, soups, and more!-Turmeric has the potential to help prevent heart diseases, cancer and Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a very bad disease. It destroys memory and brain cells.-Turmeric is also referred to as roots and Indian saffron.  It was found in New Deli in the time period of B.C.-Turmeric is a yellow-ish powder and it has helped some people to lose weight1 Thing That May Surprise You About Turmeric:Too much turmeric can cause stomach aches, nausea, dizziness, and bathroom trips. Also the first 'r' in Turmeric is silent. That sure fooled me at first. 1 Thing I Love About Turmeric:My favorite thing about turmeric is how it is used as a ceremonial plant in Asia. Turmeric is a very important part of their culture. It is also identified as the Golden Spice! This is Savannah Grace saying thanks for hearing me out.  See ya next month!

I hope everyone is having an amazing day.  Today is the first day I have felt almost 100% since dealing with my most recent Sarcoidosis flare up.  I have literally been in bed for 5+ days.  A saint was out for a minute, breathing treatments every couple of hours.  Steroids, no sleep.  JUST ANNOYING! But He is Risen!  Today, I felt like getting up! Going to Church! and even Cooking!!  I was soo excited!

Honestly, the holidays are different with Momma not being here, Rest In Heaven Momma!.  I know everyone says, it will get easier. it doesn't.  This morning my Sissy called and

Que’s Favorite Holiday Cocktail | Champagne and St. Germain

Happy Day Family!

I totally have to share my favorite holiday cocktail!  The most simple drink with the greatest flavor ever!  Its really nice and light!  I love dry champagne because it has the lowest carbs ever, it's not too sweet, and its nice and bubbly! My favorite champagne is Veuve Clicquot, but when you are balling on a budget, any dry champagne will do!  To take our celebration to the next level, I wanted to add a simple fruit like a raspberry, or a blueberry to the bottom of the flute, and to make it a more floral tasting and aromatic, I added St Germain, which is an elderflower liquor. Oh my gravy and mash potatoes!  When you taste this it's going to make your life so happy!

All Drinks are not Created Equal!

Be Mindful of your drinking this holiday season.  Don’t over do it with all those secret sugars, hidden in juices and all those pretty drinks.  Just because it’s pretty and festive doesn’t mean it’s Vegan either! Whatttttttt!!! (I know that’s what you’re thinking!)  It’s totally fine, I thought the same thing, and we all know what happened after that… I rannnnnnnnn too……(wait for it)…...GOOGLE! LOL!

What do you mean Vegan Alcohol?

Vegans don’t eat anything with a Momma (my 2 yr old thought process).  If it’s got a Momma we won’t eat it.  That rule applies to everything.  So when creating holiday drinks, I have to check the options, for wine, liquor … everything.  Did you know there was a site you can visit that will  let you check to see if it’s vegan? Desserts – A healthier take on the Desserts you feed Yourself & Your Family!

Ok....

I tried not to give everyone the business on this topic, but the truth is.... IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE!

We need to change the thought process on desserts!

After dinner you think desserts are cakes, cookies, pies, pastries all that.  In my mind when I see it, I know we think that way because of the history,  because of those who came before us.  Desserts for holidays were pies, and cobblers.  Sweets.  High Fructose Corn Syrup. Sugars. All sugar everything.

We made Apple Pancakes on Fox 2! | Recipe Inside

Oh my Gravy and Mash Potatoes!  We were on Fox 2 Again!  This time we made Apple Pancakes and they were a hit!  I will say, we bought all natural pancake mix from our local grocery store, Kroger to be exact.  The brand was Log Cabin, because their ingredients were simple.  We followed the recipe on the back, but instead of using Eggs and Milk, we made it Vegan by using a Non- Dairy Milk, like Soy Milk or Almond Milk, and Olive oil instead of Eggs.

To top it off, instead of using regular syrup, we cut the calories by just drizzling agave on top!  These pancakes were from HEAVEN!  They taste soooo good!  You have to try it!

Well, Check out our Fox 2 clip below, and of course I threw in the recipe too!
